This is Francis, a young, gentle Pyr mix with a real tale to tell. At approximately 1-1 ½ years old, this poor little guy was found so neglected, practically hairless, seemingly crippled. But with much needed medical care, a safe environment, good food and tons of love, he is emerging strong, happy and oh so loving.
Francis was rescued from a shelter, scared and without much hope. Who would visit a shelter and choose the boy with such little hair due to untreated mange and an unattractive growth on his rump, thankfully noncancerous, and most likely the result of an untreated injury that accrued scar tissue build up. His forepaw appeared deformed and was in a tight, curled position. Who would want him indeed? The good folks of SPIN, that’s who! And that is where Francis’ story really begins.
Since Francis was placed in veterinary care, he has been making an amazing transformation. The mange is cured and his hair is growing back. The growth has been removed. The tendons in his forearm have been released and he is now able to have use of his paw that was once so knuckled over. He just gives that paw a flick so he can put it down on his pads like he is supposed to. He gait might forever be affected but he pays it no mind and can romp around and play with the best of ‘em.
The best part of all? He has found love. The kind staff of the clinic have fallen for this boy’s precious heart. He is getting used to lots of attention and he is not shy to give hugs right back as you can see in his photos. He has been learning a lot too and is currently working on his “indoor” manners and some leash walking. He has had lots of friends to play with in his temporary residence. He will continue to thrive with another dog with whom he can spend his days.
Francis’ journey is not over, it has only begun. Now begins the task of finding a perfect home for him. His very own home where he will be reminded daily how special he is. Do you have enough love and attention to share with Francis? Because he has got some catching up to do.
