Harper Lee was born August 4, 2012. Thanks to the good neighbor, Harper Lee was already well socialized and in good health by the time she came into foster care with SPIN. She loves to run and play with all the dogs in her foster family – from big 100+ LB Pyrs down to a little 7 LB Yorkie – and she doesn’t mind getting dirty, as you can see in one of her photos. Thanks to the “magic Pyr coat”, she never stays dirty for long. Harper Lee is VERY smart and was easily house-trained and crate trained, but she doesn’t really NEED to be crated – it’s just sometimes convenient for the family to confine some of the dogs when visitors come. Harper Lee shows signs of wanting to become an alpha female, but the adults in her pack are doing a good job of reminding her that she’s just a pup and still has much to learn before she can be a leader. Because of her background, we believe Harper Lee is a purebred. She is a solid pup with big feet (and double dewclaws), and we expect she could easily grow up to weigh 100 LBs or more. At 5 months, she already has a DEEP bark, and she’s not afraid to use it to let the coyotes know her home is protected. She will also bark at strangers, but once her foster parents indicate that the strangers are friends, Harper Lee is very friendly. She loves playing in the yard with the other dogs in her pack, but she also loves staying in the house, napping at the feet of her foster mom and getting her tummy scratched. We think she would be happiest in a home with at least one other canine companion, or perhaps a child who would become her constant companion. Our foster families work hard to socialize the puppies in their care, and we prefer not to adopt them out to homes where they are expected to stay alone for hours while everyone else is at work or school; puppies need a lot of stimulation and interaction with people and other dogs.
Spin Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
