About Rommel

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: 595
  • Housetrained: Yes
This wonderful ole guy who looked just a bit shopworn when he arrived at SPIN is shouting to the world "hey, just look at me NOW". Rommel is about 8 years old and was abandoned by the people who were supposed to be as loyal to him as he was loyal and devoted to them.

When he came to SPIN he hardly had the energy to wag his tail but Rommel was undaunted by his misfortune and would gratefully accept attention and whimper like a baby when you would leave him as if to beg you to please not go.

Rommel has responded to the TLC he receives in his foster home and has become a regal, stately gentledog - a true Prince in every sense of the word. He is sweet, loyal, gentle and loving and would grace any home with his presence.

The more we get to know Rommel the more saddened we are that the majority of his life appears to have been not so kind to him, he is a wonderful dog who needs a place to spend his "retirement years" in the comfort and style he always deserved to have but even more so now in his golden years. Rommel would do best if his new family has someone home all day with him, he has a little seperation anxiety and will howl pitifully when left alone, inside or out (he is also ok outside if the rest of his pack (dogs) are with him - but if alone, same thing - pitifully howling). Rommel also has some skin allergy issues and needs to take some medication daily to help with it - but come on now, what oldster doesn't need a little Doc's Snake Oil help with some minor discomfort.

Surely there is a family out there - or perhaps a retiree looking for a retiree partner to spend those golden years with - who has a soft spot for an old dog to curl up in. This sweet boy has alot of love and loyalty left to bestow on some lucky family or individual - could it be you?

One more thing, Rommel is an absolute master at his hobby - taking naps!!

December 8, 2008 - it is with a mixture of profound sadness and quiet joy that I move one of SPIN's most beloved fosters to the Happy Tails page. Sadness that on this day at 9:20 am this incredible gentledog peacefully crossed over the bridge and quiet joy that he knew the love of a wonderful kind and caring family, who though on paper were his foster family welcomed him into their hearts and home where he could not have been loved more, and also that he is now once again young and vital and no doubt having the time of his life running with all those who crossed before him. His foster family ~ Kathy and Steve Gaston ~ is having his ashes returned to them and has a place of honor on the shelf that holds those of their own beloved pets from years passed ~ they want Rommel to know that he was loved and would never have been cast off again. He will always have a place in the heart of each and every one of the SPINners ~ those who met this wonderful old soul and those of us who only knew him by his pictures and words. Good-bye sweet boy, we will all see you again one day.
