Meet Benji! Estimated to be 1-2 years old, he has a presence as gentle as a summer breeze. He’s on the smaller side for a Pyrenees, weighing around 75-80 pounds.
His laid-back attitude and friendly disposition make him a delight to be around, and his full-bodied size adds to his overall charm.
Even upon his arrival to a local shelter, Benji thoroughly enjoyed meeting and greeting his fellow canine companions. We saved Benji from the shelter after they had to list him for euthanasia due to lack of space – he had only 24 hours left.
Benji is one of the sweetest dogs you will ever meet! His primary focus in life is to be loved and to show you love in return. He gets along with the other Pyrenees in his foster home and likes to run around the yard and play with them.
He has met local kids and did well with them, although he would do best with children that are older and know how to act around dogs. He has not been tested around cats.
He is incredibly playful and would do best with another playful dog in the home. He seems to have some separation anxiety if left alone.
He is not food aggressive and takes treats very gently. He loves to chew! Bully sticks, rawhide rolls, bones, you name it! He does not have much interest in toys but will take them from his foster brother just because he can, in true younger brother fashion.
He’s relatively quiet, although will bark occasionally. If he hears or sees a dog on TV he will stare and bark along with them. He hasn’t been exposed to much wildlife, but he loves to dig his head into the ground and hunt for crickets.
He also just loves to sit outside and sunbathe, even in the Texas heat! As much as you try to get him in, he’ll stubbornly ignore you, and if you go outside to try to bring him in, he’ll run around thinking it’s a game.
He is house trained and knows to potty outside, however he sometimes has accidents in new places. He is crate trained but would prefer to stay with you at all times.
He is great at hopping into a car. He’s such a Velcro dog that he will try to climb out of the backseat to place his head and chest on the console right next to you.
He enjoys quiet walks and does well on a leash, however gets scared of any loud noises such as thunder, fireworks, cars, kids playing basketball or volleyball, screaming, and so on, and he will try to pull himself up the driveway of the first available house.
