Meet Toby! He was found as a stray and has since found his way to SPIN. Right from the get-go, Toby was very affectionate, digging his head into his foster dad’s armpit on the entire drive home. He loves to get petting/attention and will give you a gentle nudge/paw to remind you that he is here and that he loves his people.
Toby appears to be mostly Great Pyrenees, as he has a great white coat and a lot of the personality traits that a lot of Pyrenees share. We are guessing he’s about 4 years old, but it is hard to say, somewhere most likely in the 3-5 range. He currently weighs about 90 pounds and is at a very healthy weight for his size.
He is house trained and is very good about waiting to go outside, although he does love to mark areas outside and has been known to try to mark in the garage a little bit. He loves to go outside for walks, and he loves food/treats, but most of all he loves getting attention and snuggling up with people.
He pretty much only barks at big noises he doesn’t understand, like the trash truck, or if a stranger is getting too close to his backyard. He has been known to bark at other dogs on walks, but he mostly only does it when he is out walking with his whole pack (him and 5 other dogs) and does much less when it’s just him on the walk.
He is okay in a crate and will tolerate car rides reasonably well, although sometimes it can take a little convincing to get him in the car in the first place.
Toby loves to play with the other dogs in the pack, and gets along great with everybody, even Lucy, who can be a little grumpy at times. He has a low-moderate level of energy, and could even be a good apartment dog, but would most likely do best with a backyard and with regular daily walks to keep him healthy and active.
He eats very quickly and gets very excited close to feeding time and needs to be instructed on where he eats and which food is his versus which is not, as he has been known to try to steal food from other dogs if allowed.
Toby loves people and allows strangers to come up and pet him when out on walks and he gets along great with kids. He would be a great addition to pretty much any home and will be a very loyal and lovable companion.
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere.
