Meet Petey! He gets cuter every day! Born around April 2023, he weighed 60 pounds at 6 months of age. He’s going to be even bigger when he reaches full adulthood, likely reaching 100 pounds of pure hunkiness.
Sweety Petey was rescued after being found all alone in the woods and covered in burrs. He was already quite sweet and friendly. Our volunteers swooped in and got him to a foster home where he was cleaned up and continues to receive all kinds of tender loving care.
Petey is a happy boy who works hard to impress everyone. He loves to meet people, but is a little shy for the first few minutes. As soon as he sees that you’re nice, he loves to show you his belly and get belly rubs.
He has such a joyful personality. He gets excited about following his foster mom around the yard. He cutely plays with ice cubes, sliding them over the floor, chasing them, and nibbling them. He likes all kinds of toys… maybe even your slippers and paper towels!
Petey is still in his puppy stage. He’s a healthy boy in his teenage years - he wants to romp, and jump, and play. If he gets into something he oughtn’t, he is easily redirected once you learn how to reason with his typical Pyr self-reliance.
Baby Petey must have at least one large, playful dog in his forever home. He gets along great with the two big dogs in his foster home, and enjoys a spirited game of “chase me.” He follows the dogs everywhere and takes their direction as they teach him how to be a properly behaved adult.
He still gets the zoomies, so he needs a nice-sized yard where he can run like the silly pup he is.
Petey is house trained, leash trained, and crate trained. He currently takes his meals in his crate.
He is shy about getting in a car, and foster mom is helping him get acclimated to riding in vehicles.
He barks if neighborhood dogs are barking or to alert if someone is walking by. He will also bark if you are talking on the phone and he hears someone he knows through the speaker. He will even bark to alert you if water boils over on the stove!
We haven’t seen him with cats. Since he doesn’t have a prey drive, we think he would be nice to house kitties, given proper introductions.
If you have room for an adorable, charming pup, Petey will make a wonderful addition to your family.
OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION:
1) PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. This helps integrate the dog into your household easier by giving the pup a mentor.
2) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone MUST also be home at least part of the day. Please do not apply for a puppy if you are gone 8-10 hours a day. It is not a good situation for you or the puppy.
3) You must have plans in place to socialize your puppy properly.
4) Our puppies are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home.
Please watch this short video which demonstrates how puppies learn polite behavior from their adult dog mentors. https://youtu.be/R6N8STRl2aI0
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere.
