Hi!  My name is Rip!  I am a Great Pyrenees, but might have a little Golden Retriever in me because I LOVE, love the water.  But I have something called “dew claws,” which is a Great Pyrenees thing!

My foster mom named me after the studly cowboy on the TV series “Yellowstone.“  She says that when he was young like me, he was taken in by a family and raised as their own, like I will be.  He is tough, handsome, and fiercely loyal, just like I will be when I grow up.

When I went to the shelter, I was just a tiny baby!  They think I was one week old when they found me, so my birthday is maybe March 9, 2023.  I was with my mom under a house where no one wanted us.  I don't know if I had brothers or sisters.  I was the only pup they could find.  At the shelter, I was able to be safe and start growing stronger.  Once I could eat food on my own, the shelter wanted to get me into a home where I could grow big and strong and not have to grow up in a loud, barky shelter, so they moved me to a wonderful foster home.  At first I was scared without my mom, but now I’m happy!  I have all my shots and I just got neutered.

Right now, I'm 50 pounds.  My vet says I'll probably double my weight.  Maybe more, but we don't know for sure.  So maybe when I'm all grown up, I'll be around 100 pounds!

I have beautiful dark brown eyes that melt into your soul.  Or so I'm told.  I have a beautiful fluffy white coat.  It's super soft and I have a few waves/curls on my back.  I have little golden freckles on my nose and legs.

I am happy, happy, happy.  I think I'm very smart, and I’m willing to please and to learn.  I'm still learning, and at just 4+ months, I've got the appropriate amount of puppy energy and then when I play and play, I plop down on the cool tile floor and sleep for a long time!

I love to get my pets and cuddles!  Especially in the evening after I get my evening zoomies.  I'll lay on the couch or cuddle on the floor.  Sometimes when I need some attention, I'll come give you my paw and that's my signal I want some TLC.

People say I'm silly.  I like to explore; I tend to think destroying paper things is kind of fun, although my foster mom doesn't find it that fun.  I'm a puppy still, so I think I can pick up most anything and run off on it.  I have discovered that I can put my paws on the counters and see what I might need up there.  This is NOT ok supposedly, so I'm working on not doing that!!

I am so happy to play with my other big dog friends and zoomie-zoomie all around the yard.  I love other dogs a lot.  I love to play and play and play, so I need a friend for sure.  I like to jump and tumble on my friends, so dogs that are big and young are the best friends for me.

I love people!  I am learning to meet all kinds of new people when I'm out for walks. Sometimes I am a little cautious, but then once they bend down to say Hi to me, I'm all wiggles.  More walks, and more meetings will do me a lot of good to not be as cautious around new people.  Once I know I'm ok, I'm their best friend!

I like kids too as long as they're sweet to me.  I am still a bit clumsy and a little jumpy when I get excited and want to play so I need to be careful around littler kids.  I probably still need some supervision.  Not because I would hurt them, just because I'm excited and happy and might accidentally scratch them.  But not on purpose.

I think I’m too bouncy and might get too strong for someone older.  I need somebody who will take me out to run and play and not worry about falling down.

I've never been around a cat so I'm not sure if I'd like one.

I've been taking swimming lessons with my foster mom.  She gently held me and we went into the pool and I loved it.  She showed me where the steps are, and I swam to them and learned how to get out.  Most every time we go outside, I like to go and sit on the first step in the pool and just hang out.  So she keeps towels handy by the back door.  I should not be left outside unsupervised by a pool though.  I'm not that good at it yet.  When I dig a little, and get my paws muddy, she washes me off with a hose and I think that game is super fun!

I love my back yard, I love my pool, I would not be happy in an apartment.  I'd love a big yard with a good strong wooden fence.

I love toys!  I have a bunch. Soft ones, ones that make noise.  Antler bones are fun too.  One thing I'm learning is a fun thing to do is to bring back balls and toys that are thrown.  I think they call that retrieving!

I am really good at going potty outside and never in my crate.  But sometimes I do get busy, and if my foster mom is busy too, and doesn't let me out pretty frequently, I might have a little tinkle accident in the house, but I'm really, really good at going every time she takes me out.

Just recently I've discovered I have a voice!  I like to show it off like my foster buddy does, but not too much.  If he does, then I think I have to join in, but most of the time I play and run quietly.

I love to walk on my leash.  I'll sometimes try to walk myself with the leash in my mouth, but I love going out on walks.  Not when it's too hot though.  I get tired and hot and it's hot on my little [but actually pretty big] paws!

I like my crate.  I go in automatically when I hear my food being prepared and eat in my crate and then quietly wait to be let back out.  I sleep in in at night or will stay in it if my foster mom needs to go out of the house for a bit.  I like it covered with big towels or blankets so it's nice and cozy.

The car rides I have been on, I've been in the back of the SUV in my crate with my blanket and my stuffed animal. I like looking out the window, and then I just lay down and go to sleep until we get where we are going.  I haven't yet gotten in the car on my own, because I can reach that high.  And I haven't ridden in the back seat or in the back without my crate.

I love to eat!!  Right now I get to eat about 4 times a day.  I'm a growing big boy.  I am super hungry when I wake up and after I go outside to do my ‘business,’ I come back in for a big good breakfast.  I eat dry kibble and I get to have a couple big spoonfuls of canned meat.  I eat again at lunch time, then dinner, and then I do like a bedtime snack. Once I get full grown I won't need to eat this much but right now, I love my food.  I don't get a lot of snacks or people food.   Just good quality dog food is great for me!

OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION:
    1) PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. This helps integrate the dog into your household easier by giving the pup a mentor.
     2) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone MUST also be home at least part of the day.  Please do not apply for a puppy if you are gone 8-10 hours a day. It is not a good situation for you or the puppy.
     3) You must have plans in place to socialize your puppy properly.
     4) Our puppies are not livestock dogs.  They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home.

Please watch this short video which demonstrates how puppies learn polite behavior from their adult dog mentors.  https://youtu.be/R6N8STRl2aI0

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere.
