Meet Buffy! Watch her brief video. https://youtube.com/shorts/4tuAUKfvVo8
Buffy is the sweetest Great Pyrenees! Born around May 2022, she is ready for her forever home. She weighs 80 pounds and will probably grow a little more. She has big feet and double back dew claws. She is mostly white, with a few spots of "buff" on her face and back. She is spayed and current on her vaccines.
Buffy came to SPIN in October 2022 from a local animal shelter after she was hit by a car. X-rays showed an oblique fracture of her left rear tibia and fibula (a break in the bone the long way). She was under-weight and had severe fleas. She was seen by our wonderful friends at North Colony Animal Clinic where they used an external fixator with four pins to stabilize the bones. She spent the next seven weeks crated with a cone on her head to give the leg bones time to heal. She was the perfect patient - allowing daily cleaning of her pin sites, taking her prescribed medications, and staying in her crate. Just after Christmas the pins were removed and she was spayed.
Buffy's leg is well healed and she has no limitations or follow-up needed. She can run fast and does not limp. She rarely jumps up. She walks fine on hardwood floors or tile. She plays well with two very active Pyrs in her foster home. She gets along fine with the five-pound geriatric Maltese, although foster mom does watch them closely since Buffy is so much bigger.
Buffy has not been around cats except at the vets office, and she did fine.
Buffy's fur has grown out and you can't tell at all that she had surgery.
She loves to go to the dog park and greets every person and dog. She LOVES kids. She only barks at when other dogs bark first or a squirrel is misbehaving.
She walks well on a leash and rides in a car nicely. She is calm inside and loves to get toys out of her toybox. She needs strong/tough toys. She likes to chew Nylabones. She occasionally chews something inappropriate, but can easily be redirected to chew on her toys instead.
She knows her name and comes in from the backyard when called. She has NEVER had an accident in the house. She does not beg for food at the dinner table. She has never growled or shown any signs of aggression. She loves to be brushed.
Buffy would do best in a home with another young, large dog. She is still a puppy with lots of energy now that she is healed 100% from her injury. She plays very hard with the Great Pyrenees (3-year-old male and 4-year-old female) in her foster home. They run, chase, and jump on each joyfully. Without this, she will get bored and chew inappropriate items.
Buffy would do well in almost any family. She is still a puppy, and is learning fast what is okay for her to play with and what is not. She is very playful and is always happy. Since she spent so much time in a crate, she prefers not to go into one, but does okay if she must do that. She usually just sleeps while her people we are gone. She has been a pure joy to foster.
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
