Meet Honey! Named for her sweet demeanor and exquisite coloring, we often call her Honey Bunny!
We joke she was bred with a fox since she has the cutest tail with a fox tip. Perhaps actually mixed with Border Collie or Golden Retriever, she’s fine-boned and petite for now. She weighed 50 pounds at 9 months of age, and might weigh around 80 pounds as an adult.
Prior to being rescued, Honey was seen in the woods for a couple months and neighbors were leaving out food for her. She finally allowed volunteers to bring her to safety.
Honey is still a bit shy and timid when meeting new people. It will take time for her to warm up and let you see her loving side. She is great with the four kids (age 9-17) in her foster home. We think she would be fine with toddlers and the elderly, because she is gentle, doesn’t nibble or paw at people.
Honey is a quiet girl. She happily lounges in the house and you don't even know she's there. She has barked only one time in foster care, and that was to alert her people that a frog was in the pool!
She warms up immediately to other animals. She has been around dogs of all sizes, cats, and birds, and she loves them all. She likes to sniff cats all over.
Honey Bunny loves being outside, playing non-stop with her dog companions. She must have at least one large, playful doggy friend in her forever home. She would do best with dogs her size or bigger since she enjoys the typical Pyr rough-housing. She will come to the back door and let you know when she has had enough and is ready to come in.
She is house trained and crate trained. You can give two soft claps and say “go to bed” or “get in your crate,” and she’ll go in and stay. She often uses the crate has her sanctuary – she’ll go in on her own and stay while the door remains open.
Sweet Honey is leash trained and loves going on walks. When she sees you pick up her leash, she immediately starts wagging her tail and zooms happily to the front door. Sometimes loud outdoor noises scare her and she needs a little love and reassurance to keep walking.
She is scared of the car. She needs help to get in, but once in, she is fine. She is nervous, but does not get sick or try to escape.
This beautifully photogenic pup will be a wonderful family companion.
OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION:
1) PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. This helps integrate the dog into your household easier by giving the pup a mentor.
2) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone MUST also be home at least part of the day. Please do not apply for a puppy if you are gone 8-10 hours a day. It is not a good situation for you or the puppy.
3) You must have plans in place to socialize your puppy properly.
4) Our puppies are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home.
Please watch this short video which demonstrates how puppies learn polite behavior from their adult dog mentors. https://youtu.be/R6N8STRl2aI
