Meet Iris! She is a special girl looking to find a comfortable home to live out her remaining years. She was left at a shelter after weaning a litter of four, the last of many litters in her 13 years.
Underweight with bad skin and fur, her front teeth ground to the gums, and ultimately determined to have cancerous mammary tumors, Iris needed a lot of care and love, not to mention food! After a few months with SPIN, she's feeling much better, eating well, and learning to be a dog. She had the tumors removed when she was spayed, and has recovered nicely. One more check-up with X-rays and she'll be cleared for a life of leisure!
Iris is on the small side, perhaps due to malnutrition over the years, and is sweet as can be. She loves to be petted, and may give a little bark if you're not paying enough attention to her. She's working on her house training, and will let you know when she wants to go out.
She enjoys a romp in the yard, sometimes playing like a much younger dog! She'll be happy to hang out with you, and will join you on the furniture if you allow her. She rides well in the car and tries to load up by herself, but may need a little help. She wants to go whenever and wherever you go!
Iris' name was changed when she came into foster care, and has learned and responds to it. She is a hearty eater and could stand to gain a few more pounds.
Her foster mommy tested Iris’ DNA, and she’s 50% Great Pyrenees, 45% Siberian Husky, 4% Chinese Shar-Pei, and 1% Labrador Retriever.
If you have room in your home and heart for a sweet dog that just wants to be comforted and comfortable for the rest of her days, check out Iris!
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
