Meet Marie! She is a sweet, happy girl. Born around January 2022, she weighed around 45 pounds at 5 months of age and will likely weigh around 85 pounds when she reaches adulthood.
Baby Marie loves to meet people, and she wants to be anywhere her people are.
She is polite when indoors. She does not get on the furniture and has not chewed up anything in the house. (It helps that the wood furniture has been sprayed with Bitter Apple.) She sleeps on the floor of her foster mom’s bedroom with the other dogs, and she knows when to settle down for the night with the command “sleepy time now” or “settle down.” She even comes when called!
She loves playing! She likes toys, especially Kongs, bones, and ice chips. Beware your towels and slippers, because she likes those, too! When outside, she gets excited about following her foster mom and ‘helping’ with chores; then she’ll run around barking as squirrels, then she’ll play-wrestle with the resident adult Pyr.
Marie likes being with other dogs, and she must have a young, playful adult dog in her forever home. The companionship will help teach her to grow into a well-adjusted, lovable adult dog.
We think she would do okay with cats since she has no prey drive.
She has a healthy appetite and is food driven for training. She will sit for treats. She is crate trained when bribed with a peanut butter filled Kong toy. She calmly stays in her kennel while her foster mom is away from the house for up to five hours a day.
She is house trained; she will come get you when she needs to go outside. She is leash trained. She is usually quiet, and barks sometimes when she sees activity outside the front window of the house. She likes running to the window with the other dogs to watch the neighbors.
She lays down nicely while riding in a car; she still asks that you lift her into it, and needs more practice before she will get in voluntarily.
OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION:
1) PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. This helps integrate the dog into your household easier by giving the pup a mentor.
2) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone MUST also be home at least part of the day. Please do not apply for a puppy if you are gone 8-10 hours a day. It is not a good situation for you or the puppy.
3) You must have plans in place to socialize your puppy properly.
4) Our puppies are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home.
Please watch this short video which demonstrates how puppies learn polite behavior from their adult dog mentors. https://youtu.be/R6N8STRl2aI0
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
