Meet Dovey!  This cautious girl with the beautifully fluffy paws was born around early 2020.  Weighing 80-90 pounds, she is strong, muscular, and fit.

True to her athletic nature, Dovey seems to revel in getting a little dirty.  She is a sloppy girl who loves mud and puddles, sitting out in the rain.  She drools quite a bit, sporting some pretty big slingers.  If you think you’re going to bathe her, just wait for her to go roll in the dirt when you’re done!

Dovey is super sweet once she gets to know you.  She seems to prefer women.  She enjoys being brushed, and having her ears and chest scratched.  She loves running in a big yard, and sometimes shows her goofy side.

She doesn’t much enjoy traditional dog toys, preferring instead to chew bones or dismantle dog beds!

Dovey needs time getting used to new people.  She can be standoffish and display aggressive behavior when protecting her home.  She requires slow introductions to visitors, because she will run and bark and growl and kick her feet.  She is incredibly responsive to correction with a water squirt bottle.  When taken to the vet, she is shy, quiet, and very cooperative.

Dovey is very picky about other dogs.  She is particular and dominant. When she likes another dog, she plays hard.  She may require more than one introduction with a prospective companion dog.  She would be fine as an only dog.

She does well with cats that are nice to dogs.

Dovey is very vocal, especially when she is on alert.  She needs a yard so she can spend her beloved extended outdoor time barking at everything that trespasses her view.

She fully house trained.  She is crate trained, but has no need for one.  She is fairly well leash trained.  She rides well in a car.

Dovey might be considered a project dog.  It took her months to decompress from the shelter and start accepting being friendly with new dogs that are low energy and leave her alone.  She is not outgoing, and she would not enjoy or do well at a dog park.  She gets nervous during storms with lightning/thunder.

While haven’t seen her with kids, we recommend that any children in the house be old enough to understand her sensitive nature and big enough to withstand her strength.

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
