Meet Toby! He is about 7-8 years old, but don’t let his age fool you! Although he’s Mr. Mellow Yellow most of the time, he can play and romp with puppies just a few months old. And he’s very patient and willing to take the abuse a puppy gives!
Toby would do best with a family that works from home and is around most of the time. He’d make a great companion pup, emotional support pup, or maybe in an assisted-living situation.
Toby is very calm and doesn’t jump on people or get too excited in new situations. He LOVES to be with his people. If he’s with you, all is right with the world.
When he is separated from his people, he gets a little stressed, but doesn’t do any damage to the house or himself. The only exception to that is if he is crated; then he becomes extra stressed and will destroy the crate and his mouth trying to escape. Please do not crate this boy.
In his foster home, he gets CBD oil every day, and he gets a calming chew if the family leaves the house. It also helps that he’s been there awhile, and knows he won’t be left alone long, plus other pups are also here to keep him company. So, he definitely needs a companion pup in his forever home. Leaving the TV on seems to help him as well.
One of the wonderful things about Toby is that he follows you almost everywhere. So much that if he doesn’t follow you, you’ll be compelled to go looking to make sure he is okay!
He also has a really cute grumble/groan. It’s just his content sound.
Toby has allergies that make his feet itch, so he chews on them. He gets Benadryl with each meal, but that doesn’t help him 100% of the day. He had one steroid shot, and that completely stopped his chewing for 1-2 weeks. We recommend that he be on a grain-free diet. It would probably help to have some allergy testing to find out exactly is causing his allergies.
Sweet Toby needs time to adjust when he gets to his forever home. He is sensitive and needs his new family to give him time to feel at home and safe. If they are willing to work through that adjustment time with him, then all will be good!
Toby is house trained 95% of the time. He sometimes has accidents if you don’t let him out first thing in the morning. And he prefers you to go outside with him so he can keep an eye on you!
He has good house manners. He doesn’t chew your pillows or furniture. He doesn’t counter surf (explore what’s on the kitchen counters). He likes to eat, and he isn’t food aggressive with people. But he’s always trying to see what’s in every other dog’s bowl to finish it off.
He likes to rest on the couch sometimes. He hadn’t yet gotten on the bed; either he can’t jump that high or he hasn’t tried.
Besides being great with adult people, Toby is also good with teenagers and would probably be good with younger children. He hasn’t been tested around toddlers.
He is leash trained. He walks calmly and doesn’t pull.
He barks only occasionally. He’ll let you know if someone is walking by the house with their pup, but he doesn’t go bonkers about it.
He is good with cats.
He has long and soft fur, but is not an excessive shedder.
