Introducing Clifford, the big white dog!  His nickname is “Buddy,” and that’s what he responds to best.

Buddy is a very smart and playful Great Pyrenees.  He was born in March of 2019.  At almost two years old, Buddy is a healthy 95 pounds.

Buddy is playful in between his naps, but is definitely out of the puppy stage and even listens to some commands such as sit, no, and outside.  Buddy happily does a cute bunny bounce with his front two legs when he’s excited and playful.  He loves playing and relaxing outside, but his favorite spot in the house is on a dog bed near people.

Buddy was surrendered to SPIN by his very loving and selfless owner.  They were unable to care for him anymore due to health reasons and wanted him to have a family that could provide the best life for him.  In addition, his owners discovered that Buddy could jump their four-foot fence, so a minimum of a six-foot sturdy fence is a requirement to adopt him.  He must have a six-foot or taller wooden or wrought iron fence; a chain link fence will not work.

Buddy is an affectionate boy without demanding attention. He happily approaches you for some pets and snuggles, and then settles nearby for a nap.  He likes being in the kitchen hoping for a morsel of food when you’re cooking and cleaning.

Buddy has only gotten onto the couch once in his foster home (it’s allowed), so we think he could be easily trained to not be on furniture as it doesn’t seem natural for him.  He definitely prefers the dog bed.

In his previous home Buddy had another dog to play with.  The home had pet birds as well that he got along with.

Buddy must have a big playful dog to keep him company.  In his foster home, he has two big male dogs to play with and he gets along with both of them.  It took him a couple of days to be completely comfortable with the lab mix, but he was very comfortable right away with another Pyr.  (If you don’t already have a fur buddy for him, adopt one from us!)

Buddy treats cats nicely by mostly ignoring them.

He doesn’t show much interest in toys other than sniffing them, but could probably learn to appreciate them.

Buddy’s foster home has two active teen boys that he likes to play with in the backyard. He will occasionally bark at them when they are loudly coming down the stairs, but he seems to be just telling them to calm down.  He would work well in a family with children of almost any age; however, they should be old enough not to get accidentally toppled by him or face-swooshed by his tail.

Buddy is fully housebroken and crate trained although a crate is not necessary for him.  He is not destructive and prefers to snooze away on the dog bed if his foster family is away.

Buddy rides nicely in a car and walks well on a leash.

Buddy has the appearance of a typical Great Pyrenees with all white fur.  He has beautiful brown eyes. Typical of Pyrs, he will bark when he hears a strange noise or sometimes if he just thinks he hears a strange noise.

Buddy needs to have his own space when eating.  He doesn’t like to share his food.  Due to mild skin issues, Buddy eats a specific dog food that should be continued.  It is a mid-price range Purina brand food that is found in most pet stores or online.

Buddy was a terrific dog in his previous home and is dearly missed. He can’t wait to find a new forever home and spend quality time with his new family. If you’d like to get together for an introduction please see the info below. There’s a perfect family for Buddy out there and he can’t wait to meet you!

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
