Meet Lilly! She is a very sweet and soulful Great Pyrenees/Anatolian Shepherd mix. She was born around March of 2019. She is slim and tall with a wonky gait. Weighing 80 pounds, it is recommended that she stay at this trim weight.
Before coming into rescue, Lilly was a stray wandering the streets with an obvious injury to her rear leg. After rescue and evaluation by our excellent orthopedic vet, it was discovered that Lilly had a completely healed but (at one time) broken rear leg. Out vet felt that surgery was not the best option for her and that a limp would be better for her than possible complications from surgery.
Despite her limp, Lilly is a sweet, calm, and affectionate girl. She absolutely loves people and pets to her head and chin. She can be a bit timid at first but loves snuggles and attention from people and other dogs. She is playful when outside but very calm and cuddly inside.
In her foster home, Lilly has three big dogs to play with and she gets along with all of them. Lilly would do well in a home with other dogs or as an only dog with plenty of attention from her family.
Lilly treats cats nicely.
She is curious when watching the other dogs in her foster home play with toys but she still doesn’t quite understand what the fuss is all about. She’d rather snuggle with a human or cuddle on a dog bed. Her favorite spot in the house is nearby the people; quietly waiting for a pet or a pat on the head. Sometimes when she’s feeling bold, she will give the traditional Pyr paw to ask for pets if it’s been too long since she received some love.
Lilly’s foster home has two active boys that she loves to spend time with. She especially keeps a watchful eye on the younger boy and sleeps in his room each night on a dog bed near his bed. Lilly would work well in a family with children of any age because she does not jump and is very calm. Lilly will cuddle on the couch or bed if persuaded but prefers to sleep nearby on a dog bed or the floor.
Lilly is fully housebroken and crate trained although a crate is not necessary. She is not destructive and prefers to snooze away on the floor if her foster family is away.
She rides nicely in a car and walks well on a leash. Long walks are not recommended because of her leg issue, but short walks in the neighborhood or even dog park outings would be great.
Lilly has very big soulful eyes and makes lots of calm eye contact. She has a calming personality and a beautiful face.
An ideal home for Lilly would have plenty of carpet or rugs since slick floors can be a bit daunting for her.
Her potential family should consider the other people and pets in their home when considering adopting Lilly. A very big rambunctious dog or children that could accidentally topple her would not be a good fit. She is very agile but she will always have a limp.
Lilly can’t wait to have a forever home and spend quality time with her own family. If you’d like to get together for an introduction please see the info below. There’s a perfect family for Lilly out there and she can’t wait to meet you!
