OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION:
1) PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. This helps integrate the dog into your household easier by giving the pup a mentor.
2) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone MUST also be home at least part of the day. Please do not apply for a puppy if you are gone 8-10 hours a day. It is not a good situation for you or the puppy.
3) You must have plans in place to socialize your puppy properly.
4) Our puppies are not livestock dogs. They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home.
Please watch this short video which demonstrates how puppies learn polite behavior from their adult dog mentors. https://youtu.be/R6N8STRl2aI
[Note: Ellie will be ready for adoption on June 20. Applications are being accepted now. She MUST be adopted with a family that already has a large playful dog, or you can adopt a playmate for her from us. Applications for Ellie will not be considered if you do not have plans to have a playmate for her. Applications for her cannot be considered if you own livestock.]
Meet Ellie! She was born in September of 2019 and has been DNA tested as 100% Great Pyrenees, but she has the heart and soul of a Golden Retriever. She is loving, loyal, and people-oriented. She is small for a Pyr, weighing 60 pounds and could be expected to weigh 70-80 pounds when full grown.
Ellie is highly intelligent and loving. Her foster mom calls her Ellie Belly because she absolutely LOVES belly rubs. Unusual for a Pyr, she obeys lots of commands already. She knows sit, no, off, outside, and find your toy. And she is learning more every day!
Ellie loves to be brushed, pet, and cuddled. She thinks she’s a lap dog.
Ellie is looking for a family to call her own. She wants a back yard with a 6-foot fence and needs a doggie friend to play with. (If you don’t already have a doggie pal to continue helping Ellie learn good dog manners, you can adopt one from us.)
Ellie would do best with a family that has time for her. At only 9 months old, she has lots of puppy energy and loves to play, but still needs direction and occasional correction. She enjoys playing outside, but would be happiest as an inside dog with some outside play time and short walks in the neighborhood.
Ellie’s foster family has other dogs, three cats, and two older kids to play with. She gets along great with all types of dogs, but seems to do better with male dogs.
Ellie is not exactly cat friendly, but could do well with cats that have their own space in the home.
Small children in Ellie’s new family would need to be older than age five to ensure that her puppy exuberance would not topple them.
Ellie has pure white fur and has deep brown eyes. She is truly a beautiful, petite, perfect-looking Pyr.
Ellie loves rope toys and dislikes squeaky toys. She loves to play tug of war with her doggy friends and run laps around the backyard. Then she’s ready for a big drink of water and a long nap on the dog bed or couch.
Ellie was surrendered by her (very loving) owners as a failed Livestock Guardian dog. And it’s a good thing because she loves the sweet life inside as a pet getting lots of attention! Ellie will not be considered for adoption to a family with livestock of any kind.
Ellie is quickly learning good house manners. She is 90% house trained and sleeps well overnight in a crate. She loves to cuddle with people on a couch, and will obey if she’s not wanted on the couch. (Unless you have a snack; then all bets are off!)
Ellie walks well on a leash and loves a good car ride. She needs to have her own space when she is fed. She does not like to share food and will let her preferences be known. In her foster home, she is fed in a crate and seems happy about that arrangement.
Ellie does not need to be crated during the day when her family is out, but will happily take a snooze if you would like her to hang out in her crate for a while. She has not shown any signs of being destructive; however, no stray sock is safe when she’s around!
If you’d like to get together for an introduction please see the info below. There’s a perfect family for Ellie out there, and she can’t wait to meet you!
