Do you have a heart to help a dog know love? If so, Roxie is the dog for you. Roxie was born around November of 2017 and in her short 2 and 1/2 years has had a pretty tough life.
She was found as a stray covered in fleas, with matted fur, and paws caked in mud. After a vet check, it was discovered that she was also underweight and riddled with birdshot, but in otherwise good health.
SPIN got to work providing her excellent nutrition, supplements, grooming, and lots of love! In a few short weeks, Roxie made huge strides in her health. She gained weight, gained confidence, and is now ready to find a loving and patient forever home.
Roxie weighs 80 pounds and will likely gain 5-10 pounds as she fills out. Because of her condition when she arrived at SPIN, she had to be shaved. In the pictures you can see that she is normally a very fluffy, beautiful, white dog. She is now close-cropped, but that will grow out by September.
Roxie is a very relaxed dog. She prefers sleeping in a cool corner of the house or yard and getting pets and cuddles. She doesn’t seem to know what toys are for yet, although she will watch the other dogs in the house playing with them and seems curious.
Roxie is fully house trained. She walks well on a leash but prefers short walks. As she builds strength and stamina, she may be able to take longer walks or enjoy a dog park.
Roxie is crate trained and will sleep quietly overnight in a crate, although it is probably unnecessary to crate her. At her foster home, she was crated to let her rest so the other foster and resident dogs wouldn’t pester her to play.
Roxie needs help becoming comfortable riding in the car. She is nervous to get in and out, but relaxes after a few minutes with reassuring pets and snuggles.
In Roxie’s current foster home, she has kids, cats, and lots of other dogs of all ages and sizes. She gets along with everyone. (She has not been around very small children so we are not sure how she would react to them). She prefers to have her own space when eating and will sometimes give a small growl letting the other dogs know her preference.
An ideal family for Roxie would be a loving, patient home that could give her the attention and belonging that she’s never had. She could do very well as an only dog or other dogs should be non-aggressive and willing to give her the time and space to get to know them.
Roxie prefers to spend a lot time sleeping and will sometimes need to be coaxed to go outside. But she’s never had an accident. We think she realizes how much she loves the comfort and coolness inside that she doesn’t see any reason to leave it.
Roxie would be great as an only dog, and she is a rare Pyr that would be very happy and quiet in an apartment. It just needs to be a ground floor apartment with no scary elevators! She tried going to a forever apartment home with a wonderful young couple; unfortunately, Roxie was just too afraid of the elevator to make a good transition.
Roxie needs a forever home with people who can commit to loving her all her life and teaching her how amazing it is to be loved and part of a family. She’s ready for love; are you ready to give her yours?
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
