Meet Luna!  This dainty girl is at once shy, sweet, friendly, calm, and playful!  Born around January 2019, she is fully grown and weighs 60 pounds.  She is on the small side for a Pyr, even down to her pretty petite feet.

Overall, she is just the sweetest girl and a great companion to adults and children.  Because of her sensitive nature, she might do best in a tranquil household.

Little Luna is a little nervous towards new people, but warms up quickly.  She is gaining confidence every day, and her foster family enjoyed seeing her come out of her shell after just one week.  She promptly earned nicknames that are testaments to her adorable personality:  Luna Lovebug, Lulu, and Luna Berry!

While fully grown, she still sometimes acts like a silly puppy.   She will put random things in her mouth to see if they taste good!  She loves toys and collects them.  You might find your tennis shoe of flip flop among her treasures!

Luna comes to life outside and loves bouncing around playing.  She hopes for a big back yard where she can run like the wind.  Even so, she doesn’t like to be out there all alone, and her favorite place to be is in the house.  She loves napping under the coffee table or laying at your feet for most of the day.   She recently discovered the couch and loves it!

She loves dogs and has done great with smaller dogs and dogs her size. She would love another dog in the home to help her with confidence and for playtime.   She has a big ol' crush on her furry foster brother and likes to throw her toys around to get him to play with her.  She really does follow in his footsteps and looks to him often for direction.   She might okay as an only dog if she has lots of time with her family.

Based on her calm demeanor and low energy level, we think she would be fine with house cats – probably curious and want to smell and say hi, but likely fine with friendly cats!

She is getting braver about walking on slick wood or tile floors that seem to slip out from under her, but she still tries to avoid them entirely; she might just lay down and refuse to move!  She prefers something that gives her a good grip underfoot.   If her forever home doesn’t have wall-to-wall carpeting, she hopes her new family will invest in some throw rugs!

Luna Berry responds best to gentle handling.  She is house trained, crate trained, and leash trained.

She does very well on a leash.   She doesn’t pull you down the street, and most of the time loves to walk right near you, sometimes nudging her nose into your hand.  She is friendly and nonreactive to other dogs or people while out.   Sometimes she shuts down in fear when having the harness put on her – she might lay down or try to hide under the coffee table - however she is good to go once it’s on and quickly gets excited for a walk.  She has the same nervous reaction if you go to pull her by the collar.

She loves her crate and sometimes takes naps in there on her own.  She has a cute habit of taking her favorite toys and blankets inside it!  As she is getting more comfortable in her foster home, she is using her crate much less.  She is free to roam the house at night and does great.

For now, she gets nervous when getting into a car, so she usually needs to be lifted into it.  Once inside, she will just lay down in the backseat for most of the time.  After more practice, she will likely get into the car willingly.

Luna likes to bark sometimes when she's feeling happy, or playful, or when she’s frustrated that her furry foster siblings have stolen her toys!  She sometimes barks at squirrels in the backyard, but she doesn't bark at people walking by.   Bonus: she doesn’t bark at night!

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
