OUR REQUIREMENTS FOR PUPPY ADOPTION:
    1) PUPPIES WILL ONLY BE PLACED IN HOMES WITH YOUTHFUL, PLAYFUL, DOGS. This helps integrate the dog into your household easier by giving the pup a mentor.
     2) In addition to the youthful playful dog, someone MUST also be home at least part of the day.  Please do not apply for a puppy if you are gone 8-10 hours a day. It is not a good situation for you or the puppy.
     3) You must have plans in place to socialize your puppy properly.
     4) Our puppies are not livestock dogs.  They must be family pets that are allowed inside the home.

Please watch this short video which demonstrates how puppies learn polite behavior from their adult dog mentors.  https://youtu.be/3aoG4Ia_9P0

Meet Gemma!  She is a powerhouse personality!  Her foster family noted from the first day with her that she has the personality of a strong independent woman.

Gemma is one of 12 pups surrendered to SPIN by a breeder who fell on unfortunate personal issues and reached out for help.  You may have seen the posts on our Facebook or Instagram pages.  Between SPIN and another rescue group, 27 dogs were placed in foster homes.  It was a great undertaking with a very happy outcome.

Gemma was born approximately September 23, 2019, and has put on about five pounds a week!  She’s growing into a big, beautiful girl.  She still has most of her puppy fluffy coat, but is growing some beautiful long adult coat to accent her huge feet!  She’s got a patch over her right eye and has black lashes and eyeliner on the right, and white lashes on the left.  Like when the people at the beauty bar give you a makeover on just one side of your face!

Gemma is doing well with potty training, but still needs a little more time and direction.  She’s pretty quiet, so we have to really watch her and listen for a little whimper to let us know she’s serious about need to go outside.

She knows “sit” and “come” (when she’s in the mood!) and answers to her name.  She also knows “kennel” but usually sits down and glares at us.  She responds well to “do you want a cookie?” She knows “leave it” and “don’t eat the house!”  She has begun leash training and is doing well.

Gemma enjoys rough and tumble play with the other dogs in the house as well and snuggles and kisses.  Her foster home includes SPIN foster Gus, (who’s a week younger), and Ava, (who’s a year old now), plus two other young dogs and the family cat.

She must have a large, playful doggy companion in her forever home.  If you don’t already have one of those, adopt one from us!

She enjoys pulling every single toy out of the toy basket to see what might be at the bottom.  She also loves to chase after the laser light (green lights work well with dogs).  She stomps on the light with her giant feet!
She also loves being outside.  The rain and chilly weather don’t bother her at all.  It’s just an invitation to find a mud puddle and roll in it!  Good thing she doesn’t mind a shower afterwards.  Toweling her off is just another form of play.

She’s still growing steadily, and she loves her meals!  When the food bowl is empty, she flings it around in protest.  She does that with the water bowl as well, but it doesn’t have to be empty!  We had to get smarter than the puppy and use a heavier bowl.

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
