Meet Santana!  This joyful dog was born around August 2015.  He is slender at 75 pounds.

Santana is a wonderful, wonderful boy who is always happy!  He loves everyone, and is everyone’s best friend – even if you just met!  He will climb in your lap so you can scratch his handsome face, then he’ll turn upside-down so you can scratch his lovely belly!  He will have you smiling and laughing constantly.

He has the playfulness and optimism of a puppy.  He gently mouths people for attention, putting his mouth around your arm without biting down.  He only does it when first getting to know you, and foster mom is working to get him out of this habit.  He has a very strong and insistent Pyr-paw!  He flops his big paw onto your hand or leg so you will give him attention.

He is a leaner!  He just wants to be touching you, so he will lean right in, whether you’re sitting or standing.  He will even wrap his paw around your knee!  He probably shouldn’t be placed in a home with people who have fragile skin or could be unsteady on their feet.

His order of preference in a companion or plaything?  Human first.  Dog second.  Toy third.

He loves playing with his doggy friends and running around the yard with them.  He gets along with male and female dogs of all sizes, and plays best with sturdy, large breed dogs.  He might do best with a playful doggy companion in his forever home.

If he is an only dog, he should have an active, affectionate human with him most of the time.  He would love a big yard where he can play and lounge, as outdoors is his favorite place to be.  If he is inside, expect him to be very near you!

He is good with cats that are accustomed to living with dogs.  He sniffs them and follows them around.  He doesn’t chase them and seems to respect their space.  He listens when told to leave them alone.

He is house trained and pet-door trained.  He is great on leash and quickly learns cues.  He is crate trained and willingly goes into one for naps.

He is resistant to getting into a car and needs more practice loading in.  Once in the car, he rides nicely, laying down.  He will get motion sick if fed directly before travel, but has no problems if not fed beforehand.

When he first came into rescue, his coat was heavily matted and filthy from neglect, so he had to be shaved before he could be bathed.  His fur is quickly returning the way it should have always been – long, fluffy, and gorgeous!

Santana is the kind of dog you can take anywhere.  He would love to have an active forever family that will take him places, so he can keep meeting new people and brightening their day as much as he does yours!

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
