Meet Darby! This handsome boy was born around May 2014. He has a small frame and is Pyrfectly proportioned at 68 pounds.
When first rescued, he was so scared of people, noises, and unfamiliar things. One can only imagine what terrors and mistreatment he must have endured in the past. Within three months of being in foster care, he made great progress in overcoming his fears. He is seeing the world as less scary place than he did before.
He is still afraid of meeting new people. His initial reaction is not all that friendly. He and his foster mom worked with a trainer who taught them ways to refocus Darby’s energy in a positive way. After a minute or two, Darby relaxes, knowing he is not in danger.
After he gets to know you, Darby’s favorite thing is to sit in your lap and cuddle while you pet him! His favorite things are bacon strips, walks, running in the backyard, and rolling in the dirt! He is a gentle, sweet boy, that just wants to be loved.
He needs at least one playful canine companion in his forever home. In foster care, he plays all day with his doggy friends. Having a fur-buddy will help him relax and be comfortable. You could also adopt his best fur-friend in the world, Mack!
Even though things outside can be scary, he still likes going for walks and car rides. He walks easily on leash, only occasionally stopping for loud noises or suspicious people. He does great riding in the car, laying down and enjoying the ride.
He is crate trained. When he sees that his foster mom is about to leave for work, he puts himself in the crate without being asked!
He listens well and is eager to please. If he is ever caught in the act of doing something unwanted, all it takes is one gentle "no," and he has learned the rule.
Sweet Darby is special boy that deserves a forever family that will make him feel safe. He dreams of people who will be patient, kind, and nurturing in a home that is semi-quiet and peaceful.
