Meet Kirby! Born around February 2018, this sweet, young boy is currently about 65 pounds, and will likely fill out to 95 pounds when he is all grown up.
Kirby is very easy-going and loves to cuddle with his humans. He doesn't really "get" personal space, so be prepared for him to get up on the couch with you by walking across you, and then using you as a pillow!
When he first meets people, he is a bit shy. Then he warms up to them relatively quickly, and is really sweet and loving.
Prior to being rescued, Kirby was in an accident (probably hit by a car) which damaged his right hip. In our care, he had surgery and was on crate rest for six weeks. Now that he is off crate rest, his hip doesn't seem to bother him (that is, he doesn't seem to be in pain), but he can't move his right hind leg very well, and it tends to knuckle under when he walks. When he wants to go faster, he simply keeps that leg off the ground and runs like a typical tripod.
He gets along really well with his furry foster siblings, laying with them (and on them!), and playing with them. He is nice to housecats.
He is very well-behaved in the house – he is house trained and crate trained. While good on leash, he is not used to going on long walks, because he has been recovering from his injury. He is very quiet, only barking occasionally.
He is excellent on road trips and tends to lay down and go to sleep after a while.
He is silly and goofy with all of his puppy energy in the mornings, then he is mellow and easy-going in the evenings.
SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention. Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
