Hi, I’m Finn!  I’m a fun loving, free spirited “tweenager” born around 1/1/2016.  I’m in search of a forever home with my very own special humans that I can protect and love.

I enjoy long walks around the neighborhood (and the rightful admiration of all who cross my path), visiting the park and shopping centers with my foster mom and dad, patrolling the house at all hours of the day and night, playing with my brothers and sisters and all the toys, lounging in the pool, and barking at those conniving squirrel things that love to mock me.

Turnoffs include being squirted with the hose, having to wait my turn to eat dinner, my foster mom not letting me sleep on the couch (or the bed, chair, etc), and having to come inside on a beautiful day.  Foster mom says I’m regal looking, good natured, friendly, and a “cheeky teenager” (whatever that means) and foster dad appreciates my vigilant house guarding and endearing habit of throwing myself at his feet for belly rubs.  I warm up more quickly to men than women, but after a few minutes of careful observation and some quality side-eye, I’m friendly to everybody.

Finn is very much stuck in that “teenager stage” and swings between challenging your commands and obeying instantly, depending on the day.  He’s very good with other dogs and cats… most of the time.  He seems to have some food guarding issues (not unexpected since he was very thin when he was found), but will back down immediately when verbally corrected.  He’s a bit aloof - unless he’s in the mood to be loved on, where he will transform into a gooey marshmallow who flops at your feet and demands belly rubs.  He’s good with being handled all over – teeth, feet, coat, etc – and will allow you to take food and toys away from him, as long as you project the impression of being in charge.

In short, he’s a dog that would do best with a firm but consistent leader, someone who understands the Pyrenees mentality and will not allow him to gain the upper hand.  He has shown a few instances of aggression towards the other dogs and a child, so we don’t recommend him for a house with young children or small/ timid animals.  His foster mom hasn’t yet been able to identify what triggers these altercations, but it is important to note that he gives no warning indication – no snarl or growl before launching an attack.  These skirmishes have been brief and easily broken up with a strong “No!” but they have been intense.

Finn would do best in an active home with another large dog, a “stand your ground” cat, and/or possibly older children.  He’s extremely athletic and would enjoy daily walks and runs or a large well fenced yard to roam.  He’s had some trauma in his past (does not like to have things tossed his way, is fearful of the hose, does not like to be “grabbed at”, and seems to recognize an e-collar on sight) and requires firm guidelines on acceptable behavior.  Once he understands them, he rarely pushes the issue.

His foster family has no issues with handling him, and he has been nothing but affectionate and well mannered with them.  He enjoys being brushed, walks nicely on a leash, and has fit in well with the family.  He is gaining weight and coat rapidly and should fill out to be a very handsome Pyr indeed.  With firm, consistent leadership and a loving family, he will blossom.

Finn is available for adoption only in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

SPIN Pyrs are all in foster homes in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Potential adopters are asked to make travel arrangements if they live elsewhere. All SPIN dogs are spayed or neutered, current on vaccinations and on heartworm prevention.  Please go to our website www.SpinRescue.org and fill out an application for this great Great Pyrenees!
