Meet Connor. A beautiful 2 year old with soulful eyes and a big heart. Here is what his foster mommy says-

When I first met Connor, I was immediately drawn in by his soulful eyes. His eyes tell such a story. A story that would most likely break my heart to hear. Connor had a broken leg but clearly, his spirit and trust in humans was far more broken. But what struck me most that day that I first met him was that he desperately wants to trust. I knew this because he looked me directly in my eyes as I spoke to him, and he never looked away. Though he was a big dog, he was thin and fragile.
His recovery was long and required several visits with his orthopedic surgeon, often requiring him to be sedated for his procedures. And yet, every time we returned, he wagged his tail when he would see the wonderful folks that worked so hard to repair his leg. However, as a result of those many visits, we discovered that Connor is definitely not a fan of car rides. We are working on “going bye bye” a more positive experience for Connor, with trips to the dog park and other fun activities that require a ride.
As his recovery progressed, Conner started to trust more and come out of his shell. He is a leaner and would give anything to spend his entire day with you, all while staring lovingly into your eyes. He started to play gently with his foster brothers and sister, but always with trepidation.
Eventually, his external fixator was removed and replaced with a splint. He had more freedom of movement and became a bit more confident. And then finally, the splint was removed. He was nervous and walked with trepidation and would look at me for long periods of time, as if he was asking me “What do I do now?”. I reassured him that it was ok for him to play and be the dog he wants to be. A week after the splint removal, I remember standing in the backyard with him, glued to my side as he always is, while his foster siblings were running all around us. He just stood watching them play and would look up at me with those soulful eyes and stare at me for a bit and then go back to watching the dogs playing. I told him “Connor, go play! It’s ok, you can play!” All of a sudden, he just took off running around the yard in circles, almost prancing and with a smile on his face. It was the most beautiful thing I had seen and it brought me to tears watching him run free. Since that day, he has continued to blossom into this beautiful, loving, gentle giant.
Connor’s temperament is friendly, though he can still be shy when first meeting people. But it doesn’t take long for him to warm up. At home he is a calm boy, happy to nap with you or just lay at your feet. He loves playing with his foster siblings, but it’s not rough housing, more of a gentle play and loves chasing games. Therefore, he would do best in a home with a canine companion, male or female, similar in size and energy level that he can play and relax with. He is also cat friendly and not a dominant boy. He is housebroken and will wait for you at the back door when he is ready to go out. His barking is limited to when someone comes to the door.
Connor’s family will be blessed to call him their own. He is a loyal boy that wants to love on his people and be loved. One look into his eyes, and you will know.
